Pregnancy is a beautiful and transformative journey, but it can also come with its fair share of challenges and uncertainties. Are you worried about making a mistake when preparing for childbirth?
I’m sure you’ve heard how “your body is never the same”, “the pain is agonizing”, and “you won’t have time to work on yourself”. This is nonsense.
While your body will naturally change over time, you don’t need to accept this is a negative. You can continue to have a healthy childbirth and body at the end of the pregnancy.
If you feel your anxiety rising at the thought of childbirth, it’s natural. In this blog post, I’ll provide with you the 5 biggest mistakes women make when preparing for childbirth. This advice should enable you to feel confident about both childbirth and your well-being afterwards.
Let’s ease those worries!
The 5 Biggest Mistakes Women Make When Preparing For Childbirth
Failing To Address Postural Problems
We’re all prone to slouching on the couch or on our office chair from time to time, but this can be a costly mistake. Whilst maintaining proper posture during pregnancy as your body undergoes changes can be difficult, poor posture can lead to back pain, increased pressure on the spine, and even difficulty during labor.
Not Managing Pregnancy-Related Pain
It’s normal for you to expect to experience some level of pain, of course. But many women choose to ignore this pain including back pain, sciatica, or joint discomfort. Ignoring these problems can actually lead to complications in childbirth.
Not Making A Birth Plan
If you haven’t thought of a birth plan, start now! A birth plan is a document that will outline your preferences during labor such as your preferred birthing position, emergency contacts, your plans for breastfeeding when you plan to leave the hospital, and if you would like the baby to stay in the room with you afterwards.
Welcoming your “mini-me” into the world is among life’s most special moments, and ensuring it goes exactly how you imagined is important.
I understand that creating a birth plan can be a daunting task – but it doesn’t have to be! Working with healthcare professionals to create the plan, can help you feel ready for the big day!
Not Resting Or Relaxing
Labor inevitably exerts a lot of pressure on your body and it’s important to prepare effectively for the task. When you relax, it helps make sure that your baby is in the right position to be born when that special day comes. It’s important to make sure your mind is in the right place and ready, here are some things you or your partner could do to prepare:
- Massages
- Warm Baths
- Maintaining a quiet environment where possible
Underestimating The Power Of Education
You may think that some of the points in this post are contradictory. Exercise, ensure you rest, etc. The important thing to maintain is balance. One of the worst mistakes women like you can make during pregnancy is not seeking proper education and guidance when it comes to childbirth. A lack of knowledge, and most importantly a lack of balance can lead to fear of labor, making the occasion seem terrifying.
